"Ascending King" is a reproduction by Renato of an Original Mayan carving found in Bonampak, Chiapas, Mexico. Period: Late Classic, 692 A.D.
Since the transfer of power of Mayan Kings was seen as a supernatural act, it was necessary to record the transformation in progress and to show the legitimate right to office by the presence of noble lords at the ceremony. |
